Down for the Count

Hey all-

Here's a bonus post for you, on this lovely Wednesday evening. So, I'm watching the new episode of Lost tonight (which by the way, was better than the last few) and I happen to see a very strange ad. Aparently, the studio is re-releasing Cinderella Man in theatres before its DVD release on Dec. 6th. Now, I saw this film in theatres and thought it was pretty good. Not great, but good. However, despite critical acclaim, this film tanked in the box office. Probably because of a poor marketing campaign and an odd release date. Why release it in the summer? This film is certainly going to be oscar material.
So, I was surprised to see that this film is getting a second shot at box office gold. Why? My theory (and I may be wrong) is that the studio has absolutley no faith in this film, expects poor DVD sales and wanted to milk as much out of it as they could. I really hope this isn't a trend. When a movie fails to perform, no matter how good it is, it should be allowed to die with dignity on DVD. Not in this case, I guess. This is just more proof of the slow crumbling of artistic integrity. The marketing swine in Hollywood are destroying the buisness. I just hope there's some left for real talent to maybe turn things around- give the power back to the filmmakers and stuff. A big F+U to everyone involved in this decision. Booo!

Love, Andy

P.S.- Russell Crowe still rules. Throw all the phones you want dude, you cool.

A
